Weeds is an American dark comedic television drama created by Jenji Kohan. The show depicts a widowed mother of two boys from Southern California who begins selling marijuana after her husband's unexpected death. Over the course of the show, she and her family become involved in smuggling and murder.

Mary-Louise Parker, whose credits include The West Wing and Angels in America, portrays the widowed mother. Hunter Parish features as her son and Alexander Gould, of Finding Nemo fame, as her youngest. Elizabeth Perkins, whose credits also include Finding Nemo, plays Nancy's narcissistic neighbor; however, by the sixth season, the actress left to pursue other projects. Justin Kirk, also of The West Wing fame, plays the boys' uncle who lives with the family, post Judah's death.

The first three seasons take place in the fictional town of Agrestic, California. The primary locale of seasons four and five is in the fictional beachside of Ren Mar. During the sixth season, the family relocates to Seattle, Washington and then to Dearborn, Michigan.

The show debuted on the Showtime cable network on August 7, 2005, to the channel's highest ratings, and the debut of fifth season earned Showtime's highest ratings of 1.3 million viwers. Among the awards the show has received include 2 Satellite Awards, 1 Golden Globe Award, 1 Writers Guild of America Award, 1 Young Artist Award, and 1 Emmy Award.
