The discography of Metallica, a San Francisco-based heavy metal band formed in 1981 by James Hetfield (lead vocals, rhythm guitar) and Lars Ulrich (drums), consists of nine studio albums, four live albums, six compilation albums, one cover album, one collaboration album, and numerous singles and videos, many of which were commercially successful. After several lead guitarist and bassist changes, the band settled on Kirk Hammett and Cliff Burton, respectively. Metallica started playing locally, releasing its first widely circulated demo, No Life 'til Leather, in 1982. The demo caught the attention of Johny Zazula, who signed Metallica to Megaforce Records.[1] The band released Kill 'Em All in 1983, and the following year they released Ride the Lightning. After Ride the Lightning was released, Metallica left Megaforce and signed to Elektra Records.[2] In February 1986, the band released its third studio album, Master of Puppets, which was Metallica's first album to be certified gold by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA).[3] While promoting the album, Burton was killed in a bus accident. Jason Newsted was hired as a replacement and the band's first release to feature the new member was an EP of cover songs. ...And Justice for All was released in August 1988 and peaked at number six on the Billboard 200.[4]
Metallica's fifth, self-titled album, often called The Black Album, was released in 1991 and debuted at number one on the Billboard 200.[4] The band embarked on a two year tour in support of the album. Metallica has since been certified 16 times platinum by the RIAA.[3] Metallica wrote enough material for a double album, but released it all as two separate albums, titled Load and Reload.[5] After the release of a cover album and a live album, Newsted (who would later join Voivod) departed from the band. Metallica recorded St. Anger without an official bassist (bass parts for the writing & recording during the album sessions were play by the band's longtime producer Bob Rock). Robert Trujillo was hired as Metallica's newest bassist in 2003. In 2008, the band released its ninth studio album, Death Magnetic, which was produced by Rick Rubin. The album is distributed through Warner Bros. Records. In April 2009, the band's catalogue was released on the iTunes Store as the Metallica Collection.[6] Metallica has sold more than 100 million records worldwide,[7] with over 60 million records in the United States alone (53,850,000 albums since 1991 when SoundScan started tracking actual sales figure).[8] Metallica is the only band in history to have five consecutive studio albums debut at number 1 on the Billboard 200.[9][10]
In a June 2009 interview with Italy's Rock TV, Ulrich stated that the next Metallica album will again be produced by Rick Rubin, although they have no plans to write and record it until sometime after the conclusion of the World Magnetic Tour in November 2010.
In August 2013, Metallica will be releasing their new movie: Metallica: Through The Never and after that ran its course Metallica then plans to start writing for their tenth studio album.
In a recent interview in May 2013, James Hetfield stated they have enough material for their next album.

Robyn Rihanna Fenty (born February 20, 1988), better known as simply Rihanna, is a Barbadian R&B recording artist and songwriter. Born in Saint Michael, Barbados, Rihanna moved to the United States at the age of 16 to pursue a recording career under the guidance of record producer Evan Rogers. She subsequently signed a contract with Def Jam Recordings after auditioning for then-label head Jay-Z.

In 2005, Rihanna released her debut studio album, Music of the Sun, which peaked in the top ten of the Billboard 200 chart and features the Billboard Hot 100 hit single "Pon de Replay." Less than a year later, she released her second studio album, A Girl Like Me (2006), which peaked within the top five of the Billboard albums chart, and produced her first US number one hit single, "SOS", as well as Billboard Hot 100 top ten entries "Unfaithful" and "Break It Off". Rihanna's third studio album, Good Girl Gone Bad (2007), peaking at number two on the Billboard 200, featured five top ten hits including three US number one hit singlesâ€”"Umbrella", "Take a Bow" and "Disturbia"â€”and the worldwide hit "Don't Stop the Music". The album was nominated for nine Grammy Awards, winning Best Rap/Sung Collaboration for "Umbrella," which features Jay-Z. Her fourth studio album, Rated R, was released in November 2009, and peaked at number four on the Billboard 200. Its first three singles, "Russian Roulette", "Hard" and "Rude Boy" peaked within the top ten of the Billboard Hot 100, with "Rude Boy" peaking at number one. She released her fifth studio album, Loud, in November 2010, that features the US and UK number one singles, "Only Girl (In the World)" and "What's My Name?".

Rihanna has sold more than 25 million albums and 45 million singles worldwide. She has achieved nine number-one singles on the Billboard Hot 100 since first appearing on the chart on June 11, 2005, which is the most by any artist during that time span. As of July 23, 2010, Rihanna has sold approximately 5,563,000 album units in the US. She has sold over 10 million records in the UK. Billboard named Rihanna the Digital Songs Artist of the 2000s decade. She has received several accolades, including the 2007 World Music Awards for World's Best-Selling Pop Female Artist and Female Entertainer of the Year, as well as the 2008 American Music Awards for Favorite Soul/R&B Female Artist and Favorite Pop/Rock Female Artist. She serves as one of Barbados's honorary cultural ambassadors. In January 2010, Rihanna received two Grammy Awards for Jay-Z's 2009 single "Run This Town".
