The Walking Dead is an American post-apocalyptic horror television series developed for television by Frank Darabont. It is based on the graphic novel series The Walking Dead by Robert Kirkman, Tony Moore, and Charlie Adlard.

The series stars Andrew Lincoln as Sheriff's Deputy Rick Grimes who wakes up after being in a coma to find the world dominated by "walkers", resembling the zombies of George A. Romero's horror movies. He sets out to find his family and other survivors along the way.

The Walking Dead premiered on October 31, 2010 on the cable television channel AMC in the United States.The first season premiered to wide acclaim and was nominated for several awards, including the Best Television Series Drama at the 68th Golden Globe Awards. Based on its reception, AMC renewed the series for a second season of 13 episodes which premiered on October 16, 2011.Two episodes into the second season, AMC announced that the show would return for a third season.

The first season of The Walking Dead was well received by critics, with a rating of 82 out of a 100 on Metacritic.The season one premiere was watched by over 5.3 million people.The season two premiere was watched by more than 7 million viewers.The Walking Dead also received many award nominations, including a Writers Guild of America Award and a Golden Globe Award for a Best Television Series Drama.

CSI: NY (Crime Scene Investigation: New York) is an American police procedural television series that ran on CBS from September 22, 2004 to February 22, 2013 for a total of nine seasons and 197 original episodes. The show follows the investigations of a team of NYPD forensic scientists and police officers identified as "Crime Scene Investigators" (instead of the actual title of "Crime Scene Unit Forensic Technicians" (CSU)) as they unveil the circumstances behind mysterious and unusual deaths as well as other crimes. The series is the second indirect spin-off from the veteran series CSI: Crime Scene Investigation and directly from CSI: Miami during an episode in which several of the CSI: NY characters made their first appearance.

Originally in 2004, CSI: NY was produced in partnership with the Canadian media company Alliance Atlantis.The company dissolved after season three in 2007, and all production after that was done under the purview of CBS Paramount Television.

The show was filmed at the CBS Studio Center with many of the outside scenes shot in and around Los Angeles.Occasionally, scenes were filmed on location in New York City.

The series ended its ninth and final season on February 22, 2013.It was canceled by CBS on May 10, 2013.

When a group of rebels convicted as terrorists escape execution by fleeing from the year 2077 to 2012, Kiera Cameron (Rachel Nichols), a future Vancouver law enforcement officer (called Protector), is involuntarily transported with them. In order to track the terrorists down and keep them from changing the past (and presumably future), Kiera joins the 2012 Vancouver Police Department and uses the skills of a young tech expert, Alec Sadler (Erik Knudsen), to both track the Liber8 agents' pasts and provide her with the necessary information and contacts to operate in the present despite her lack of official credentials.

The future of 2077 is a dystopian one in which world governments have collapsed and corporations now dominate the planet, instituting a high-surveillance, technically advanced police state and removing certain social freedoms, specifically criticism against the "Corporate Congress". The society seems relatively free, with a working class that enjoys a high standard of living in contrast with scenes of severe prosecution upon a downtrodden people who cannot afford food. The moral dilemma this presents is that the group of eight from 2077 (who call themselves "Liber8"), while self-admittedly having killed tens of thousands of people as collateral, consider themselves to be freedom fighters against the Orwellian corporate regime that dominates their time; Kiera's actions are primarily focused on preserving her timeline so that she can return to her family rather than considering the broader implications of her society. She has already released a woman who committed a murder in the present because she would go on to use stolen technology to develop an efficient new power supply for the world of the future, but is otherwise willing to treat the crimes she investigates on their merits in the present rather than constantly worrying how they will affect her future.

After Kiera goes back in time, she finds that she can communicate with a young Alec Sadler using his prototype 2012 wireless technology, which will become pervasive in 2077 and incorporated in her cybernetic police gear. She learns that in sixty years' time, an elderly Alec Sadler is actually the head of the mega-corporation Sadtech, whose technology may (inadvertently or otherwise) have been used to send Kiera and the others back in time.

Serbian TV series "Women with Dedinje" is the story of four women, so many at first might think that it's the new "Sex and the City," but in fact they are new, Belgrade's "Desperate Housewives." Are there really "desperate", will be seen in a series that by all carries elements typical American series, so much so that the series has one doctor Rosa, but not from a "desperate housewife," but from that old "Peyton Gradića" in which the name of the two "t" - Rossi.

But "Women with Dedinje", as it is clear, they live in a desirable neighborhood of Belgrade, which is admittedly not named as Wisteria Lane in the TV series "Desperate Housewives," but the four women live lives similar to American heroine - they love, suffering, scheming, cheating , lie and try to find their way to happiness.
"Women with Dedinje" are modern, but completely different. Čarna Malbasa (Anđelka Stevic), Clare Haji Popovic (Irena Mičijević), Valeria Savic (May Noveljic) and Alisa Velebit (Lena Bogdanovic) live lavishly and apparently fulfilled.

‘Larin izbor’ je napeta ljubavna priča koja mora prebroditi brojne zapreke. Ovo je priča o izboru jedne žene između dva muškarca, izboru između karijere i obitelji, te odanosti i bitke za preživljavanjem. Serija je snimana na vanjskim lokacijama duž dalmatinske obale što dodatno pridonosi romantičnoj atmosferi. Glavne likove Laru i Jašu razdvoji more kada Jaša mora otići na dalek put ostavljajući Laru na milost i nemilost svoje zle majke. Lara je zatočena u, za nju, stranom elitnom svijetu dalmatinske aristokracije. Emocionalni usponi i padovi, šokantni obrati i jedna sudbina držat će konstantne tenzije i zaokupljati pažnju tijekom cijele radnje serije. Lara je jednostavna, prirodno lijepa, dugačke kose i nasmijana djevojka. Završava studij klavira u Splitu gdje živi i radi sama te povremeno pomaže u jednoj catering službi. Na jednom domjenku gdje honorarno radi i upoznaje Jakova, kojeg zovu Jaša, mladog momka iz ugledne splitske obitelji. On je dobro odgojen, sportski tip no vrlo emotivan, pomalo zamoren roditeljskim očekivanjima i nesiguran u to što želi raditi u životu. Jaša se upravo vratio sa školovanja u inozemstvu i zabava u obitelji Zlatar priređena je u njegovu čast. Otac proglašava njegovo preuzimanje posla, no Jašu više zanima mlada djevojka koju susreće u kuhinji praveći se da on nije dio slavljeničke obitelji. Jaša i Lara zagledaju se jedno u drugo te provode zajedno cijeli bal pod maskama. Nakon strastvene noći u vrtu, njegova majka Nela ih uhvati te otjera Laru iz kuće. Jaša se ne suprotstavlja majci, ali ipak odlazi za posramljenom Larom moleći oprost. Lari je neugodno zbog provedene noći, jer se inače tako ne ponaša. Istovremeno, Jašina majka stvara pritisak na oca da se sinu pronađe prava djevojka za njega. Opsjednuta je imidžom obitelji i nastavkom loze, jer u Splitu ipak svi sve znaju. Uvjerena da Jaša još uvijek viđa Laru, nastoji joj uništiti buduću karijeru. U obitelji Zlatar kreću burni sukobi zbog Lare. Jaša shvaća da njegova obitelj nije ono što je mislio o njima kada je kao mladac odlazio u Ameriku. Kao pobunu od stege i pritiska koji vrše na njega, Jaša odluči otići iz obiteljske tvrtke i sam započeti svoj život. Njegov otac, uspješni trgovac koji je izgradio bogatstvo, tu njegovu odluku teško podnosi i doživljava srčani udar. Otac je trebao isploviti s robom koju prevozi, pa se Jaša s osjećajem krivice želi iskupiti i učiniti to umjesto njega. U dirljivom oproštaju prije isplovljavanja traži Laru da ga čeka i prosi je. Nakon tajnog vjenčanja vodi je u obiteljsku kuću tražeći od svojih da je prihvate sada kada je službeno njegova žena. Lara ostaje u nepoznatoj sredini preokrenutog svijeta koji će početi više sličiti paklu i gledajući prema horizontu … čekajući da se Jaša vrati…

The series follows Carrie Mathison, a CIA operations officer who, after conducting an unauthorized operation in Iraq, is put on probation and reassigned to the CIA's Counterterrorism Center in Langley, Virginia. In Iraq, Carrie was warned by an asset that an American prisoner of war had been turned by Al-Qaeda. Carrie's job grows complicated when her boss, Director of the Counterterrorism Center David Estes, calls Carrie and her colleagues in for an emergency briefing. Carrie learns that Nicholas Brody, a U.S. Marine Sergeant who had been reported as missing in action since 2003, has been rescued during a Delta Force raid on a compound belonging to terrorist Abu Nazir. What Is A Dvdrip, Cam Etc.

CAM

A cam is a theater rip usually done with a digital video camera. A mini tripod is sometimes used, but a lot of the time this wont be possible, so the camera make shake. Also seating placement isn't always idle, and it might be filmed from an angle. If cropped properly, this is hard to tell unless there's text on the screen, but a lot of times these are left with triangular borders on the top and bottom of the screen. Sound is taken from the onboard microphone of the camera, and especially in comedies, laughter can often be heard during the film. Due to these factors picture and sound quality are usually quite poor, but sometimes we're lucky, and the theater will be fairly empty and a fairly clear signal will be heard.

TELESYNC (TS)

A telesync is the same spec as a CAM except it uses an external audio source (most likely an audio jack in the chair for hard of hearing people). A direct audio source does not ensure a good quality audio source, as a lot of background noise can interfere. A lot of the times a telesync is filmed in an empty cinema or from the projection booth with a professional camera, giving a better picture quality. Quality ranges drastically, check the sample before downloading the full release. A high percentage of Telesyncs are CAMs that have been mislabeled.

TELECINE (TC)

A telecine machine copies the film digitally from the reels. Sound and picture should be very good, but due to the equipment involved and cost telecines are fairly uncommon. Generally the film will be in correct aspect ratio, although 4:3 telecines have existed. A great example is the JURASSIC PARK 3 TC done last year. TC should not be confused with TimeCode , which is a visible counter on screen throughout the film.

SCREENER (SCR)

A pre VHS tape, sent to rental stores, and various other places for promotional use. A screener is supplied on a VHS tape, and is usually in a 4:3 (full screen) a/r, although letterboxed screeners are sometimes found. The main draw back is a "ticker" (a message that scrolls past at the bottom of the screen, with the copyright and anti-copy telephone number). Also, if the tape contains any serial numbers, or any other markings that could lead to the source of the tape, these will have to be blocked, usually with a black mark over the section. This is sometimes only for a few seconds, but unfortunately on some copies this will last for the entire film, and some can be quite big. Depending on the equipment used, screener quality can range from excellent if done from a MASTER copy, to very poor if done on an old VHS recorder thru poor capture equipment on a copied tape. Most screeners are transferred to VCD, but a few attempts at SVCD have occurred, some looking better than others.

DVD-SCREENER (DVDscr)

Same premise as a screener, but transferred off a DVD. Usually letterbox , but without the extras that a DVD retail would contain. The ticker is not usually in the black bars, and will disrupt the viewing. If the ripper has any skill, a DVDscr should be very good. Usually transferred to SVCD or DivX/XviD.

DVDRip

A copy of the final released DVD. If possible this is released PRE retail (for example, Star Wars episode 2) again, should be excellent quality. DVDrips are released in SVCD and DivX/XviD.

VHSRip

Transferred off a retail VHS, mainly skating/sports videos and XXX releases.

TVRip

TV episode that is either from Network (capped using digital cable/satellite boxes are preferable) or PRE-AIR from satellite feeds sending the program around to networks a few days earlier (do not contain "dogs" but sometimes have flickers etc) Some programs such as WWF Raw Is War contain extra parts, and the "dark matches" and camera/commentary tests are included on the rips. PDTV is capped from a digital TV PCI card, generally giving the best results, and groups tend to release in SVCD for these. VCD/SVCD/DivX/XviD rips are all supported by the TV scene.

WORKPRINT (WP)

A workprint is a copy of the film that has not been finished. It can be missing scenes, music, and quality can range from excellent to very poor. Some WPs are very different from the final print (Men In Black is missing all the aliens, and has actors in their places) and others can contain extra scenes (Jay and Silent Bob) . WPs can be nice additions to the collection once a good quality final has been obtained.

DivX Re-Enc

A DivX re-enc is a film that has been taken from its original VCD source, and re-encoded into a small DivX file. Most commonly found on file sharers, these are usually labeled something like Film.Name.Group(1of2) etc. Common groups are SMR and TND. These aren't really worth downloading, unless you're that unsure about a film u only want a 200mb copy of it. Generally avoid.

Watermarks

A lot of films come from Asian Silvers/PDVD (see below) and these are tagged by the people responsible. Usually with a letter/initials or a little logo, generally in one of the corners. Most famous are the "Z" "A" and "Globe" watermarks.

Asian Silvers / PDVD

These are films put out by eastern bootleggers, and these are usually bought by some groups to put out as their own. Silvers are very cheap and easily available in a lot of countries, and its easy to put out a release, which is why there are so many in the scene at the moment, mainly from smaller groups who don't last more than a few releases. PDVDs are the same thing pressed onto a DVD. They have removable subtitles, and the quality is usually better than the silvers. These are ripped like a normal DVD, but usually released as VCD.

Formats

VCD

VCD is an mpeg1 based format, with a constant bitrate of 1150kbit at a resolution of 352x240 (NTCS). VCDs are generally used for lower quality transfers (CAM/TS/TC/Screener(VHS)/TVrip(analogue) in order to make smaller file sizes, and fit as much on a single disc as possible. Both VCDs and SVCDs are timed in minutes, rather than MB, so when looking at an mpeg, it may appear larger than the disc capacity, and in reality u can fit 74min on a CDR74.

SVCD
SVCD is an mpeg2 based (same as DVD) which allows variable bit-rates of up to 2500kbits at a resolution of 480x480 (NTSC) which is then decompressed into a 4:3 aspect ratio when played back. Due to the variable bit-rate, the length you can fit on a single CDR is not fixed, but generally between 35-60 Mins are the most common. To get a better SVCD encode using variable bit-rates, it is important to use multiple "passes". this takes a lot longer, but the results are far clearer.

XVCD/XSVCD

These are basically VCD/SVCD that don't obey the "rules". They are both capable of much higher resolutions and bit-rates, but it all depends on the player to whether the disc can be played. X(S)VCD are total non-standards, and are usually for home-ripping by people who don't intend to release them.

KVCD

KVCD is a modification to the standard MPEG-1 and MPEG-2 GOP structure and Quantization Matrix. It enables you to create over 120 minutes of near DVD quality video, depending on your material, on a single 80 minute CD-R/CD-RW. We have published these specifications as KVCDx3, our official resolution, which produce 528x480 (NTSC) and 528x576 (PAL) MPEG-1 variable bit rate video, from 64Kbps to 3,000Kbps. Using a resolution of 352x240 (NTSC) or 352x288 (PAL), it's possible to encode video up to ~360 minutes of near VCD quality on a single 80 minute CD-R. The mpeg files created will play back in most modern standalone DVD players. You must burn the KVCD MPEG files as non-standard VCD or non-standard SVCD (depends on your player) with Nero or VCDEasy.

DivX / XviD

DivX is a format designed for multimedia platforms. It uses two codecs, one low motion, one high motion. most older films were encoded in low motion only, and they have problems with high motion too. A method known as SBC (Smart Bit-rate Control) was developed which switches codecs at the encoding stage, making a much better print. The format is Ana orphic and the bit-rate/resolution are interchangeable. Due to the higher processing power required, and the different codecs for playback, its unlikely we'll see a DVD player capable of play DivX for quite a while, if at all. There have been players in development which are supposedly capable, but nothing has ever arisen. The majority of PROPER DivX rips (not Re-Encs) are taken from DVDs, and generally up to 2hours in good quality is possible per disc. Various codecs exist, most popular being the original Divx3.11a and the new XviD codecs.

CVD

CVD is a combination of VCD and SVCD formats, and is generally supported by a majority of DVD players. It supports MPEG2 bit-rates of SVCD, but uses a resolution of 352x480(ntsc) as the horizontal resolution is generally less important. Currently no groups release in CVD.

DVD-R

Is the recordable DVD solution that seems to be the most popular (out of DVD-RAM, DVD-R and DVD+R). it holds 4.7gb of data per side, and double sided discs are available, so discs can hold nearly 10gb in some circumstances. SVCD mpeg2 images must be converted before they can be burnt to DVD-R and played successfully. DVD>DVDR copies are possible, but sometimes extras/languages have to be removed to stick within the available 4.7gb.

MiniDVD

MiniDVD/cDVD is the same format as DVD but on a standard CDR/CDRW. Because of the high resolution/bit-rates, its only possible to fit about 18-21 mins of footage per disc, and the format is only compatible with a few players.

Misc Info

Regional Coding

This was designed to stop people buying American DVDs and watching them earlier in other countries, or for older films where world distribution is handled by different companies. A lot of players can either be hacked with a chip, or via a remote to disable this.

RCE

RCE (Regional Coding Enhancement) was designed to overcome "Multiregion" players, but it had a lot of faults and was overcome. Very few titles are RCE encoded now, and it was very unpopular.

Macrovision

Macrovision is the copy protection employed on most commercial DVDs. Its a system that will display lines and darken the images of copies that are made by sending the VHS signals it can't understand. Certain DVD players (for example the Dansai 852 from Tescos) have a secret menu where you can disable the macrovision, or a "video stabaliser" costs about 30UKP from Maplin

NTSC/PAL

NTSC and PAL are the two main standards used across the world. NTSC has a higher frame rate than pal (29fps compared to 25fps) but PAL has an increased resolution, and gives off a generally sharper picture. Playing NTSC discs on PAL systems seems a lot easier than vice-versa, which is good news for the Brits An RGB enabled scart lead will play an NTSC picture in full colour on most modern tv sets, but to record this to a VHS tape, you will need to convert it to PAL50 (not PAL60 as the majority of DVD players do.) This is either achieved by an expensive converter box (in the regions of Ł200+) an onboard converter (such as the Dansai 852 / certain Daewoos / Samsung 709 ) or using a World Standards VCR which can record in any format.

About Release Files

RARset

The movies are all supplied in RAR form, whether its v2 (rar>.rxx) or v3 (part01.rar > partxx.rar) form.

BIN/CUE

VCD and SVCD films will extract to give a BIN/CUE. Load the .CUE into notepad and make sure the first line contains only a filename, and no path information. Then load the cue into Nero/CDRWin etc and this will burn the VCD/SVCD correctly. TV rips are released as MPEG. DivX files are just the plain DivX - .AVI

NFO

An NFO file is supplied with each movie to promote the group, and give general iNFOrmation about the release, such as format, source, size, and any notes that may be of use. They are also used to recruit members and acquire hardware for the group.

SFV

Also supplied for each disc is an SFV file. These are mainly used on site level to check each file has been uploaded correctly, but are also handy for people downloading to check they have all the files, and the CRC is correct. A program such as pdSFV or hkSFV is required to use these files.

Usenet Information

Access

To get onto newsgroups, you will need a news server. Most ISPs supply one, but this is usually of poor retention (the amount of time the files are on server for) and poor completition (the amount of files that make it there). For the best service, a premium news server should be paid for, and these will often have bandwidth restrictions in place.

Software

You will need a newsreader to access the files in the binary newsgroups. There are many different readers, and its usually down to personal opinion which is best. Xnews / Forte Agent / BNR 1 / BNR 2 are amongst the popular choices. Outlook has the ability to read newsgroups, but its recommended to not use that.

Format

Usenet posts are often the same as those listed on VCDQUALiTY (i.e., untouched group releases) but you have to check the filenames and the description to make sure you get what you think you are getting. Generally releases should come down in .RAR sets. Posts will usually take more than one day to be uploaded, and can be spread out as far as a week.

PAR files

As well as the .rxx files, you will also see files listed as .pxx/.par . These are PARITY files. Parity files are common in usenet posts, as a lot of times, there will be at least one or two damaged files on some servers. A parity file can be used to replace ANY ONE file that is missing from the rar set. The more PAR files you have, the more files you can replace. You will need a program called SMARTPAR for this.

Scene Tags

PROPER

Due to scene rules, whoever releases the first Telesync has won that race (for example). But if the quality of that release is fairly poor, if another group has another telesync (or the same source in higher quality) then the tag PROPER is added to the folder to avoid being duped. PROPER is the most subjective tag in the scene, and a lot of people will generally argue whether the PROPER is better than the original release. A lot of groups release PROPERS just out of desperation due to losing the race. A reason for the PROPER should always be included in the NFO.

SUBBED

In the case of a VCD, if a release is subbed, it usually means it has hard encoded subtitles burnt throughout the movie. These are generally in malaysian/chinese/thai etc, and sometimes there are two different languages, which can take up quite a large amount of the screen. SVCD supports switch able subtitles, so some DVDRips are released with switch able subs. This will be mentioned in the NFO file if included.

UNSUBBED

When a film has had a subbed release in the past, an Unsubbed release may be released

LIMITED

A limited movie means it has had a limited theater run, generally opening in less than 250 theaters, generally smaller films (such as art house films) are released as limited.

INTERNAL

An internal release is done for several reasons. Classic DVD groups do a lot of .INTERNAL. releases, as they wont be dupe'd on it. Also lower quality theater rips are done INTERNAL so not to lower the reputation of the group, or due to the amount of rips done already. An INTERNAL release is available as normal on the groups affiliate sites, but they can't be traded to other sites without request from the site ops. Some INTERNAL releases still trickle down to IRC/Newsgroups, it usually depends on the title and the popularity. Earlier in the year people referred to Centropy going "internal". This meant the group were only releasing the movies to their members and site ops. This is in a different context to the usual definition.

STV

Straight To Video. Was never released in theaters, and therefore a lot of sites do not allow these.

OTHER TAGS

*WS* for widescreen (letterbox)
*FS* for Fullscreen.

RECODE

A recode is a previously released version, usually filtered through TMPGenc to remove subtitles, fix color etc. Whilst they can look better, its not looked upon highly as groups are expected to obtain their own sources.

REPACK

If a group releases a bad rip, they will release a Repack which will fix the problems.

NUKED

A film can be nuked for various reasons. Individual sites will nuke for breaking their rules (such as "No Telesyncs") but if the film has something extremely wrong with it (no soundtrack for 20mins, CD2 is incorrect film/game etc) then a global nuke will occur, and people trading it across sites will lose their credits. Nuked films can still reach other sources such as p2p/usenet, but its a good idea to check why it was nuked first in case. If a group realise there is something wrong, they can request a nuke.

NUKE REASONS :: this is a list of common reasons a film can be nuked for (generally DVDRip)

** BAD A/R ** :: bad aspect ratio, ie people appear too fat/thin

** BAD IVTC ** :: bad inverse telecine. process of converting framerates was incorrect.

** INTERLACED ** :: black lines on movement as the field order is incorrect.

DUPE

Dupe is quite simply, if something exists already, then theres no reason for it to exist again without proper reason.

The show depicts the lives of Dave and Vicky and their three children as they live their lives in Long Island, New York, dealing with normal family issues. Dave is a middle class Jewish insurance salesman. He is often portrayed as insensitive and cynical, and sometimes as a paranoid, overprotective and hypocritical bigot. His family (especially Larry) find it difficult to accept his behaviour. Dave is constantly scolded and insulted (and even punched once) by Larry for always picking on him. It is established toward the end of season one that Dave is the way he is because he had a father who constantly badgered him. Dave's wife Vicky is an attractive Italian Catholic part-time receptionist at a Doctors' office. Generally levelheaded, she usually spends her time dealing with Dave's unreasonable behavior, but can be quite obnoxious herself.

Of their three children, the oldest is Hillary (Kaylee DeFer), a typical 17-year old who frequently misbehaves, trying to get away with bad behavior behind the backs of her parents, who often regard her with suspicion. Second oldest is 16-year-old Larry (Kyle Sullivan), an odd misfit given to emotional outbursts (such as when Vicky denies him permission to see Brian Boitano star as Bilbo Baggins in The Lord of the Rings On Ice). Larry is often seen with his best friend Kenny. Initially Dave believes that the boys are both gay, but it is later revealed to the audience that while Larry is not gay, Kenny has a secret crush on Larry. Dave, and to a lesser extent Vicky, often treat Larry's flamboyancy with wary eyes. The youngest child, the pubescent 14-year-old Mike (Dean Collins), must deal with issues such as masturbation, dating and underage gambling. His character is portrayed as tougher and more cynical than Larry's.

The series frequently breaks the fourth wall between segments of an episode, during which Dave or other characters deliver a rant or other comment directly relating to the scene.

Weeds is an American dark comedic television drama created by Jenji Kohan. The first three seasons take place in the fictional town of Agrestic, California. The primary locale of seasons four and five is in the fictional beachside of Ren Mar. During the sixth season, the family relocates to Seattle, Washington and then to Dearborn, Michigan.

The show debuted on the Showtime cable network on August 7, 2005, to the channel's highest ratings, and the debut of fifth season earned Showtime's highest ratings of 1.3 million viwers. Synopsis
The younger you are, the more you'll enjoy UPN's short-lived revival of The Twilight Zone. Front-loaded with young actors (or marginal celebrities, like Jessica Simpson) and a bone-jarring theme by Korn's Jonathan Davis, the show panders to a teen demographic, which original-series creator Rod Serling would never have tolerated. It's a pale copy of Serling's original, and even the 1985 TZ revival was marginally better, but there are some memorable exceptions in this 43-episode, six-disc set. Not surprisingly, the best episodes are straight remakes of (or sequels to) classic Serling originals, including "The Monsters on Maple Street," "It's Still a Good Life" (with former child actor Bill Mumy reprising his creepiest role, and featuring a series-best performance by Cloris Leachman), and "Eye of the Beholder." Of the originals to this series, highlights include the pilot episode with Jeremy Piven; Jason Alexander in "One Night at Mercy," Amber Tamblyn in "Evergreen"; Lukas Haas in "Harsh Mistress"; Lou Diamond Phillips in "The Pool Guy"; ER's Eriq La Salle as writer, director, and star of "Memphis"; and a few others that capture the eerie quality of "another dimension of sight, sound, and mind."

Woefully miscast as the series' host, Forest Whitaker delivers facile introductions devoid of Serling's literary finesse. More often than not, the writing relies on forgettable characters and thinly-disguised variations on original-series themes; at its worst, the series demonstrates a staggering lack of originality, and the youthful casting frequently results in one-dimensional performances, with a few notable exceptions. It's hit-or-miss at best, but shooting locations in Vancouver, British Columbia, lend the series a visually stimulating variety of settings and atmosphere; production values are consistently high (as they were in the Canadian seasons of X-Files), and Rick Maguire deserves praise for his cinematography on virtually every episode. If you can forget Serling altogether (a difficult challenge for his devoted fans), you'll be able to overlook the flaws and enjoy some occasionally clever trips into The Twilight Zone as it was meant to be. --Jeff Shannon

Inspired by the essays of humorist W._Bruce_Cameron, this ABC sitcom went through a number of title changes before settling on its unwieldy but all-encompassing cognomen. The basic gag here was that John_Ritter and Katey_Sagal, respectively the randy Jack Tripper on Three's Company and the slatternly Peg Bundy on Married With Children, were now cast against type as the intensely over-protective parents of three teenagers, two girls and a boy. When Cate Hennessy (Sagal) re-entered the workplace, her newspaper columnist husband Paul Hennessy (John_Ritter) suddenly found himself in more or less full charge of his daughters, the man-hungry (and barely clothed) Bridget (Kaley_Cuoco) and the wise-lipped Kerry (Amy_Davidson, who was eerily reminiscent of Roseanne's Sara_Gilbert). Agonizing over the girls' choice in beaux and their outrageous outfits (thong and bra jokes abounded on this series), the long-suffering Paul often found himself turning to his (comparatively) level-headed son Rory (Martin_Spanjers) for advice (the kids on the series were named after the real-life children of series creator Tracy_Gamble). And just for the record, those titular eight rules were as follows: "1: Use your hands on my daughter and you'll lose them after. 2: You make her cry, I make you cry. 3: Safe sex is a myth. Anything you try will be hazardous to your health. 4: Bring her home late, there's no next date. 5: Only delivery men honk. Dates ring the doorbell. Once. 6: No complaining while you're waiting for her. If you're bored, change my oil. 7: If your pants hang off your hips, I'll gladly secure them with my staple gun. 8: Dates must be in crowded public place. You want romance? Read a book." Star Trek is an American science fiction entertainment franchise created by Gene Roddenberry. The core of Star Trek is its six television series: The Original Series, The Animated Series, The Next Generation, Deep Space Nine, Voyager, and Enterprise. The franchise also includes eleven feature films, dozens of games, hundreds of novels as well as a themed attraction in Las Vegas (opened in 1998 and closed in September 2008) and at least two traveling museum exhibits of props. Beginning with the original television series and continuing with the subsequent films and series, the franchise has become a cult phenomenon, initiated the creation of the fully functional constructed language Klingon, and spawned many pop culture references.

The original Star Trek followed the interstellar adventures of James T. Kirk and the crew of an exploration vessel of a 23rd century galactic "United Federation of Planets"—the Starship Enterprise. This series debuted in 1966 and ran for three seasons on NBC, after the network rejected an initial pilot film "The Cage" with a mostly different cast, though this pilot is now routinely packaged with the original series. Following the release of other series in the franchise, the Kirk-led series was retroactively referred to as "Star Trek: The Original Series". These adventures were continued by the short-lived Star Trek: The Animated Series and six feature films. Four more television series were eventually produced, based in the same universe but following other characters: Star Trek: The Next Generation, following the crew of a new Starship Enterprise set a century after the original series; Star Trek: Deep Space Nine and Star Trek: Voyager, set contemporaneously with The Next Generation; and Star Trek: Enterprise, set before the original series, in the early days of human interstellar travel. Quantum Leap
Like The Littlest Hobo for geeks, Quantum Leap was the kind of reassuring TV that made staying in a truly exciting prospect. Aside from a few two-parters and the late addition of an 'evil leaper', you could pick up this sci-fi classic at any point, watch it for an hour and be wholly entertained. Thanks to the exposition-heavy opening title sequence, the show's wholesome morals and the admittedly repetitive nature of Sam Beckett's weekly time-travelling adventures, it's a genuine contender for the most inclusive TV show of all time.

Best Episode
The Boogyman (Season 3, Episode 5), aka the one where Sam met Stephen King and Satan. Leaping into the body of a Gothic horror novelist on Halloween, Sam has to solve two unexplained murders before anybody else gets hurt but it soon becomes apparent that the killer is not of this earth - spooky stuff indeed.

Did You Know?
An idea for an episode that was unfortunately never made had Sam leaping into the body of Thomas Magnum - better known as Magnum P.I.

Prison Break

Okay, so we all know this show has not so much jumped the shark as leapt on its back and ridden it rodeo-style across the ocean, but there was a time when this was guilty pleasure in its purest form. The first season (the one which was actually set in a prison) found the saintly Michael Schofield covering himself in handy tattoos and incarcerated in the same chokey as his death row-sentenced brother. Amazingly, it lived up to the completely ridiculous premise, so it's a shame that the second and third seasons took the institutionalized concept out of its comfort zone.

Best Episode
Riot Drills And The Devil Parts 1 and 2 (Season 1, Episodes 6-7), the episodes that really saw the show step up a gear as the evil T-Bag kick starts a full-scale cellblock riot. It's a breathless two-parter that sees Dr Sara Tancredi's infirmary under siege from jonesing inmates, Michael's best-laid plans under threat and T-Bag killing off an unfortunate prison guard.

Described by Kevin Smith as 'hands-down the bet show on television', Veronica Mars' teen noir formula quickly established the show as a cut above the rest. That it began with the heroine recounting her drug-rape at a party and the grisly murder of her best friend immediately marked it as something other than your average high school drama. Smart storylines and witty riffs on pop culture pepper the scripts, while Kristen Bell lent ballsy charm to the title role and ensured that every episode of the show's three seasons was television gold. Its untimely cancellation was a slap in the face that still smarts to this day.

Best Episode
Not Pictured (Season 2, Episode 22), where Veronica pieces together the secret of the bus crash and the perpetrator of her own rape years before.

Did You Know?
In an attempt to save the show from impending cancellation, fans banded together and sent a truck containing more than 10,000 Mars bars to The CW. Sadly the network was not swayed by the offering and axed it anyway.

Bringing aliens to us rather than boldly going anywhere, DS9's space station-set antics were a surprisingly dark slice of the Star Trek universe. Holocaust allegories and genocide themes were regular occurrences in early seasons, eventually giving way to a larger story arc about a war with the pernicious Dominion, which ran right up until the show's seventh year finale. DS9 boasted the most no-nonsense Commander (Q: "You hit me! Picard never hit me."), a decidedly cool shape-shifting security chief and the USS Defiant: the most kick-ass ship in the galaxy.

It's developed a reputation as a silly show about shoes and cocktails, but the fashion obsession hides a series that was often extremely smartly written and incredibly brave. It's easy to forget now how groundbreaking the adventures of four Manhattan 30-somethings were not just for women on TV, but for the treatment of sex on the box. The entire vibrator industry owes Carrie and Co an enormous debt.

Best Episode
The Agony and the Ex-tacy (Season 4, Episode 1). As Carrie turns 35, the girls reflect on being 30-something and single. It faces up to the potential sadness of the show's premise and turns it into a positive.

Did You Know?
In the script for one episode, the nameless Mr Big was jokingly listed as Boris. His name is actually John.

Farscape
An Australian sci-fi series featuring muppet aliens from The Jim Henson Company - it's not exactly a pitch that says 'edgy' or even very good. Against the odds, though, Farscape emerged as an innovative, amusing and endlessly watchable romp as Astronaut John Crichton fumbled his way through life on the other side of the galaxy while dropping endless pop culture references that were clearly lost on his alien companions. In Claudia Black's Aeryn Sun was found one of sci-fi's favourite pin-up girls and the chemistry between Black and co-star Ben Browder was so apparent they were reunited after Farscape's cancellation for the final series of Stargate SG-1.

Best Episode
Icarus Abides (Season 3, Episode 15), the death of Crichton (well, one of them - don't ask) and its effect on Aeryn is as heart-rending a moment as any we've seen.

Did You Know?
The show was cancelled after season 4, but the fan-led 'Save Farscape' campaign was so vociferous that it was picked up by the media and Sci-Fi finally bowed to pressure and greenlit a miniseries to wrap up the plot in 2004.

In Edward 'Fitz' Fitzgerald, Robbie Coltrane concocted one of television's most memorable anti-heroes. The gambling, chain-smoking, heavy-drinking, overweight psychologist may have incorporated almost every vice known to man but viewers delighted in the ease with which he mercilessly beat lesser men to an intellectual pulp. Unlike its contemporaries, Cracker was never concerned with the whodunit aspect (the perpetrator was generally revealed in the first scenes) but rather built up to the moment Fitz got the suspect in an interview room. Assaulting them with cutting insight and outright provocation, the portly profiler bent them to his will and put the squeeze on until they finally cracked. Arguably the finest drama Britain has produced - just don't mention the lamentable US remake.

Best Episode
To Be A Somebody (Season 2, Episode 1), Robert Carlyle as psychotic footie fan Albie Kinsella. "L-I-V, E-R-P, Double-O-L, Liverpool FC!"

The later Christmas specials may have been about as funny as an Oxfam ad but for most of its run, Only Fools And Horses was a sitcom that made you proud to be British. Del Boy and Rodney Trotter's doomed attempts to become millionaires kept the nation smiling for over 20 years and, even with constant repeats, they still manage to raise a giggle today. No matter how many times you watch the best bits (the chandelier scene, the yuppie bar fall, the Batman and Robin run), they never fail to make us laugh.

Best Episode
Yuppy Love (Series 6, Episode 1). The appeal of Only Fools can be boiled down to one single gag - Del Boy falling through an open bar flap. The episode that saw Del embracing the Filofax and quoting Wall Street, it marked a high point in a richly rewarding series.

Seen as something of a Saving Private Ryan spin-off, this mini-series from producers Tom Hanks and Steven Spielberg was so much more. Based on renowned Second World War historian Stephen Ambrose's non-fiction book, it told the tale - from boot camp to Allied victory - of the US Army 101st Airborne Division's Easy Company. As visceral and visually stunning as its big budget brother, Band Of Brothers benefited from being given the chance to breathe. Over the course of its ten-hour runtime, we grew to genuinely care about the ever-diminishing group and the horrific challenges they faced.

Best Episode
Day Of Days (Episode 2). As Saving Private Ryan depicted the horrors of the Normandy landings, Day Of Days exposed the absolute FUBAR that the paratroop regiments experienced. Dropped behind enemy lines and scattered to the four winds, the soldiers were left alone, scared and deeply in the shit - and the tone was set for a brilliant mini-series.

Did You Know?
The actors endured a gruelling ten-day boot camp where they learned parachute jump training. The average day was 16 hours long, beginning at 5am, rain or shine.

Confused and disorientated, he must figure out a way to get back to his own time while dealing with the detective dinosaur that is DCI Gene Hunt. Attempting to combine clever sci-fi with Sweeney-style cop show nostalgia, Life On Mars succeeded on both levels - largely thanks to John Simm and Philip Glenister's fun turns as the bickering cops from different times. Much more than just big flares and sexist rants, it was the best buddy show in years.

The one where a hostage situation becomes increasingly nerve-wracking for Sam when he discovers the ransom deadline coincides with the time that his life support machine is due to be turned off in 2006. Tense, taut and nicely handled, it managed to combine the crime and sci-fi elements with confidence.

Years before they incurred the wrath of right-wing Christians with Life Of Brian and messed about the Arthurian legend with The Holy Grail, the Monty Python team re-imagined TV comedy with the silliest and strangest sketch show ever devised. Thanks to the imagination of John Cleese, Terry Jones, Graham Chapman et al (and the bravery of the BBC), the show has somehow stood the test of time - who would have thought that a song about Spam would still be funny over 30 years later?

Best Episode
The Spanish Inquisition (Series 2, episode 2). The Parrot Sketch, The Ministry Of Silly Walks, The Lumberjack Song… None of these classic sketches feature in this episode, but what you do get is - and nobody will expect them -The Spanish Inquisition. Repeatedly crashing in on other sketches and constantly screwing up their lines, they represent the anarchic silliness that became the Pythons' stock in trade.

Curb Your Enthusiasm
Part of the genius of Curb Your Enthusiasm is that it's impossible to tell where the real Larry David ends and the fictional David begins. After all, this is a man who used to go out on stage for stand-up shows, peer at the audience and then walk off if he didn't like the look of the crowd. Every episode sees him getting into ass-puckeringly awkward scrapes with waiters, doctors, salesmen and other celebrities, from Ben Stiller to Martin Scorsese. The combination of David's lack of social skills with the right-on political correctness of LA's denizens makes for edgy, hilarious viewing.

Best Episode
Opening Night (Season 4, Episode 10). The climax to a story arc in which Larry takes a lead role in Mel Brooks' stage musical, The Producers, is a cringey masterpiece, with our hero forgetting his lines and telling David Schwimmer, "You got the good shave" in front of a packed auditorium.

Did You Know?
Ted Danson and David are friends in real life as well as the show. The two once spent New Year's Eve in Mexico, where Larry embarrassed their whole group by standing next to a mariachi band playing Frank Sinatra's My Way and loudly translating the lyrics into English.
