Facebook users who using Mozilla Firefox web browser to visit facebook.com website can use hack script for Greasemonkey add-on to remove and hide annoying ads in Facebook. Of course, it’s possible to use specialized ad blocker such as AdBlock Plus, but some may prefer Greasemonkey as it does a lot more things. Greasemonkey addon for Firefox allows users to customize the way a web page displays using small bits of JavaScript, including removing ads contents and banner advertisements blocks.

Once installed Greasemonkey plugin in Firefox, restart Firefox browser and then install one of the following Greasemonkey scripts created by Greasemonkey users.

Remove All Facebook Ads – Removes banner ads, sponsored items in news feed and sponsored sidebar items from Facebook.

NoFacebookAds – Removes Facebook flyer and network adverts, including ‘social adverts’ such as the annoying Danish barber adverts.

Hide Facebook Ads

Facebook – Hide FeedAds – Hides the ads inserted into Facebook Feed. (WARNING: May be a phishing script. Use with own care.)

Facebook Companion – Remove ads from Facebook, where the later is the original source code.

NoPirateQuestAds – Specific to PirateQuest ads, where it prevents any Facebook wall entries containing ads for “PirateQuest” from appearing.

Installing F.B. Purity for Firefox

1. First you need to be running the Firefox web browser, to install it, if you dont already have it, simply download and install from mozilla.org/firefox

2. You then need to install the Greasemonkey addon for Firefox. Greasemonkey lets you customise how you view websites. Its very fast to download and again, easy and straight forward to get going. You can download the addon from here: Greasemonkey

How to invite all your friends on Facebook to your event in one go

UPDATE: After this post was originally written, Facebook came up with a solution to create lists of friends. You can create several lists, based on your own personal criterias, and add your friends to different lists, which you then can send event or page invitations to. I would rather recommend using this solution provided by Facebook, so that you don’t send information which might not apply to all of your friends.
To create a list, go to your Account settings, choose Edit Friends and Create new list. After you’ve created new lists you have an option to filter friends based on list names when you’re inviting friends to events or pages.

The newly redesigned Facebook has led inviting members to an event/group/page to an even more complex process. Why can’t they just make a “select all” button? Initially I got tired of clicking several hundred times on all the pictures to invite people to my event, so I came up with this small piece of Javascript:

Go to your event/group/page, click invite people and then paste this snippet in the URL field of your browser.
Left-click the mouse in the URL field and hit Enter. Your invitations will not be sent yet, but all your friends will be selected. Click the “Invite” or “Send” button on the Facebook page to finally send the invites.

1. Userscripts and Firefox

Greasemonkey is an extension for Mozilla Firefox, an open source Web Browser. Most userscripts are written for Firefox & Greasemonkey (although some work in Opera, Safari and even Internet Explorer).

For this guide I will assume you are using Firefox, if not you should install Firefox first.

2. Userscripts run via Greasemonkey

Now that you have Firefox, you need to install Greasemonkey. After installation (which requires restarting your browser), you are now ready to install userscripts.

Now clicking on a .user.js link triggers Greasemonkey to pop up the script installation panel. Greasemonkey shows you a list of what sites the script will run on and ask if you want to install the script.

Now loading a web page results in additional code (the userscript) being run.

3. Download the facebook autopoke script

JavaScript is an object-oriented scripting language used to enable programmatic access to objects within both the client application and other applications. JavaScript is a dialect of the ECMAScript standard and is characterized as a dynamic, weakly typed, prototype-based language with first-class functions. JavaScript was influenced by many languages and was designed to look like Java, but to be easier for non-programmers to work with.

JavaScript was originally developed by Brendan Eich of Netscape under the name Mocha, which was later renamed to LiveScript, and finally to JavaScript.The change of name from LiveScript to JavaScript roughly coincided with Netscape adding support for Java technology in its Netscape Navigator web browser. JavaScript was first introduced and deployed in the Netscape browser version 2.0B3 in December 1995. The naming has caused confusion, giving the impression that the language is a spin-off of Java, and it has been characterized by many as a marketing ploy by Netscape to give JavaScript the cachet of what was then the hot new web-programming language.

JavaScript, despite the name, is essentially unrelated to the Java programming language even though the two do have superficial similarities.
