The 2014 FIFA World Cup will be the 20th FIFA World Cup, an international men's football tournament that is scheduled to take place in Brazil from 12 June to 13 July 2014. It will be the second time that Brazil has hosted the competition, the previous being in 1950. Brazil was elected unchallenged as host nation in 2007 after the international football federation, FIFA, decreed that the tournament would be staged in South America for the first time since 1978 in Argentina, and the fifth time overall. The national teams of 31 countries advanced through qualification competitions that began in June 2011 to participate with the host nation Brazil in the final tournament. A total of 64 matches are to be played in twelve cities across Brazil in either new or redeveloped stadiums, with the tournament beginning with a group stage. For the first time at a World Cup Finals, the matches will use goal-line technology. With the host country, all world champion teams since the first World Cup in 1930 (Argentina, England, France, Germany[nb 2], Italy, Spain and Uruguay) have qualified for this competition. Spain is the defending champion, having defeated the Netherlands 1–0 in the 2010 World Cup final to win its first World title. Brazil vs Croatia (World Cup 2014 Highlights) Brazil took on Croatia in the opening game of 2014 world cup and the home support was great at the Sao Paulo arena, Brazil started the game with keeping more of the ball but Croatia showed glimps of what they can do with couple of quick counter attacks. The first goal came through Marcelo who put the ball in his own goal to give Croatia a surprise lead in 11th minute. Brazil 3-1 Croatia Highlights [ World Cup 2014 Highlights ] 11′ 0 – 1 (o.g.) Marcelo 29′ 1 – 1 Neymar 71′ 2 – 1 Neymar (Penalty) 90′ 3 – 1 Oscar Brazil started to see even more of the ball after going 1-0 down as Croatia were willing to sit back and absorb the pressure and try to hit home side on the counters. Neymar was given a yellow card for elbowing Modric and on any other day it could have been a red card. Though straight after the yellow card indcided Neymar scored with a low left footed drive in the bottom corner to make it 1-1 on the night. The game was 1-1 at the break and Brazil looked much the better side after getting back on lever terms, After the break Neymar scored another goal but this time from a spot kick to send home fans into frenzy.

Mexico vs Cameroon (World Cup 2014 Highlights) Only goal of the match came in the 2nd half where Peralta scored in 61st minute of the game to make it 1-0 and get all three points. Mexico absolutely dominated the game from the word go and although they put the ball twice in the back of the net in first half, both goals were disallowed. Mexico started with Javier Hernandez on the bench and the way Mexico played it looked like a good decision as they created many chances in the opening 45 minutes. Former Tottenham attacker Giovani Dos Santos was constant trouble for this Cameroon defence who found it hard to cope with pressure applied by mexico. Mexico 1-0 Cameroon Highlights [ Group C - 2014 World Cup Match ] 61′ 1 – 0 Oribe Peralta Cameroon defended deep but they failed to mark their men in the final third which lead chance after chance and they were incredibly lucky to have gone into break with score at 0-0. After the break however Mexico up the tempo and they were rewarded with a good goal coming from Peralta, Dos Santos low hard shot was saved by Cameroonian keeper but on rushing Peralta was on hand to poke it home and get a deserved lead and ultimately a win.

Spain vs Netherlands (World Cup 2014 Highlights) Holland had to chance to revenge their 2010 world cup final defeat in the hands of Spain as both team played each other in the group B match. 3 time world cup finalists meet again in the next world and all three occasions champions failed to win. Holland looked the sharped of the two sides as they pressed spanish defend who looked a bit out of sorts. First chance fell to Wesley Snieder who found himself one on one with Iker Casillas but failed to score. Diego Costa who opted to play for Spain won a penalty when Stefan De Vrij tripped him in the box, Xabi Alonso scored spain’s first penalty in world cups since 2006. Holland 5-1 Spain Highlights [ Group B - 2014 World Cup ] 27′ 1 – 0 (pen.) Xabi Alonso 44′ 1 – 1 Robin van Persie 53′ 1 – 2 Arjen Robben 64′ 1 – 3 Stefan de Vrij 72′ 1 – 4 Robin van Persie 80′ 1 – 5 Arjen Robben It took moment of magic from Robin Van Persie to bring Holland back into the game, when he tracked a long pass from full back Blind and expertly looped the ball over Cassillas with a sublime diving header. The timing of the game was just perfect as Holland went into the break the happier side. After the break Holland put Spain under real pressure and spain lost possesion in holland’s half which lead to a fast counter attack where Blind crossed in a superb ball in the box which fell to Robben and he took it on turned the defender inside (a bit like bergkamp against argentina 98′) and shot which took deflection before settling in the back of the net. After that it was all Holland, as they ran riot with two more goals against the defending world champions, who have been exposed badly. First Stefan de Vrij scored to make it 3-1 and than Robin Van Persie scored his 2nd and Holland’s 4th of the night.

Chile vs Australia (World Cup 2014 Highlights) After spain’s loss against Holland, Chile went into the game against Australia knowing that a win in this match will put them in great position to qualify from this group. Chile are one of the most attack minded teams in 2014 world cup and they did live up to their expectations when they started the game on fire. Barcelona forward Alexies Sanches scored in just 12th minute of the game after a nice move inside the box to make it 1-0, while couple of minutes later Chile were at it again when a quick turn a burst of pace opened up australian defence which lead to a nice chance where Valdivia produced a superb finish to make it 2-0. At that point it looked like game set and match for Chile as they were stronger, faster and played better football. Chile 3-1 Australia Highlights [ Group B - 2014 World Cup ] 12′ 1 – 0 Alexis Sanchez 14′ 2 – 0 Jorge Valdivia 35′ 2 – 1 Tim Cahill But Australian totaly against the run of play made a comeback, with a goal coming from Tim Cahill who scored an absolute tradmark header and all of sudden aussies had their tails up. Minutes later another chance fell to Cahill but this time he failed to finish of the move.

Colombia vs Greece (World Cup 2014 Highlights) Colombia took an early lead through Pablo Armero, the goal had a hint of offside but colombians dont mind as long as they all count. Greece started the game on back foot and that early goal was kick in the teeth fortheir traditional defensive style. After the goal Greek side had to come out and take the game to Colombia. Colombia 3-0 Greece Highlights [ Group C - 2014 World Cup ] 05′ 1 – 0 Pablo Armero 58′ 2 – 0 Teofilo Gutierrez Game was 1-0 at the break and although Greece put the latin side under some pressure towards the end of the first half, they were never really troubled in the final third apart from couple of half chances. Colombia on the other hand kept the intensity in their play which was rewarded in the 2nd half when Gutierrez scored in 58th minute to make it 2-0 and kill the tie off.

Uruguay vs Costa Rica (World Cup 2014 Highlights) Uruguay started the game on the front foot against north american outfit Costa Rica who went into the game as big under dogs, things went as planned in the first half as Uruguay created more chances and managed to win a penalty which was converted by PSG striker Edinson Cavani in the 24th minute. Game was 1-0 at the break and Costa rica were still in the game without having put Uruguay under any real trouble. Costa Rica 3-1 Uruguay Highlights [ Group D - 2014 World Cup ] 24′ 1 – 0 (pen.) Edinson Cavani 54′ 1 – 1 Joel Campbell 57′ 1 – 2 Oscar Duarte 84′ 1 – 3 Marco Urena 90′ [red card ] Maximiliano Pereira Uruguay tried to get back on lever terms in the last 20 minutes but Costa Rica had other ideas as they defended pretty good and managed to hold on to their 2-1 lead.

England vs Italy (World Cup 2014 Highlights) England started the game brightly with their front four players causing problems for Italy defence but it was Italians who took the lead when Andrea Pirlo’s superb dummy setup a great oppertunity of a shot on target outside box for Marchisio, who struck the ball neatly and put it in the bottom right corner with a hard low shot. England took on Italy in the Group D game on Saturday night and the match turned out to be a rumble in the amazonia jungle. Marchisio and Sturridge scored for either side in the first half. Mario Balotelli made it 2-1 for Italy a Lead which they managed to defend quite easily in the end England 2-1 Italy Highlights [ Group D - 2014 World Cup ] 35′ 0 – 1 Claudio Marchisio 37′ 1 – 1 Daniel Sturridge 51′ 1 – 2 Mario Balotelli England’s responce was immediate when Rahim Sterling found Rooney in space behind Italy defence on the right side, who took a couple of touches and put in lovely teasing cross at the back post where Sturridge was on hand to poke it home. Game was 1-1 at the break but England were the happier side going into the halftime having sustain constant pressure in the last few minutes, when Balotelli’s lob was cleared off the line and a shot hit the goal post. After the break Italy scored again through Mario Balotelli and that was the game there, after that it was typical italian side defending but England made it so easy for them by playing without any plan and intensity. Apart from one chance which fell to Wayne Rooney, England just could not pull two passed together. Now England has a mountain to climb as they need to win both of their remaining group games to qualify for next round.

Ivory Coast vs Japan (World Cup 2014 Full Matches) Japan took the lead first but it was African side who came up top in the second half an scored two goals, Honda opened the scoring for Japan in the first half but an inspired subsitution of Drogba changed the game as he was heavily involved in both goals. World Cup magic will continue deep into the saturday night when Japan takes on african nation Ivory Coast in the late kickoff which will be played in the city of Recife. This is another finaly balanced game where either side can get a win and they really do need one in order to get through this group. There will be an early kickoff between Colombia and Greece who are the other two teams in Group C.

Switzerland vs Ecuador (World Cup 2014 Full Matches) Swiss side started the game on the back foot as south americans used the familiar conditions to good effect when they took the lead in 22nd minute of the match and made 1-0, Enner Valencia was on target, the game finished 1-0 at the break in favour of Ecuador. France vs Honduras (World Cup 2014 Full Matches) France are off to a flying start in their first world cup game when they defeated Honduras by 2-0 with Benzema and Noel Valladares scored on either side of the half time to get a comfortable win. France made it to the fifa world cup through european playoffs, when the came from 2-0 down in the first leg to win 3-0 in the second leg at Stadia de France against Ukraine side. Since than French side are looking more and more dangerous with all the young players they have in the squad. Honduras on the other hand will be hoping to take some experience out of the world cup and they are highly unlikely to get through this group.

Argentina vs Bosnia Herzegovina (World Cup 2014 Highlights) Lionel Messi scored his trademark goal against Bosnia to get a win for a very lackluster Argentina and this game couple have gone either way or draw and no one would be surprised. Messi himself is walking whole match but just two moments of magic where his burst of pace leave defeders in shadows and he created one and scored one. Argentina had to dig deep to get a result against Bosnia, they took the early lead when Lionel Messi created havoc in the box which lead to own goal but after that Argentina’s gameplay was mediocer to say the least. Bosnia grew in confidence and they kept going forward and created a few decent oppertunities. After the break game came to life as both teams pressed forward for a goal and it took moment of magic from Lionel Messi to score the 2nd goal for argentina. He ran with a ball, beat a couple of players before unleashing a trademark low curling effort from the edge of the box to make it 2-0. Ibisevic scored in 84 minute to get Bosnia a lifeline but Argentina managed to hold on to their lead. Argentina were the favourites in the last three world cups but they always came up short in the knockout stages, nwo they have a chance and a great team to back up their claim as one of the best football nation in the world. Playing in very familiar conditions of South American, Argentina has all the ingrediants and attitude to go all the way this time around. Bosnia do have some quality players in their lineup and I expect them to get through this group with Argentina.

Iran vs Nigeria (World Cup 2014 Full Matches) Iran held of the challenge from Nigerian side who created the better chances of both teams, the game was a dull affair where both teams canceled each other out. Iran will be the happier of the sides but this result leave both teams needing wins in their remaining two games to have any chance of making it to the knockout stages. Carlos Queiroz has installed a never die attitude in this Iranian team who have been playing some good football in the last couple of years. They are ranked top in asian continent but Iran’s world cup pedigree is very low. There only win came against USA 16 years ago in 1998 world cup while Nigeria has consistantly qualified for world cups in last 20 years but the success was far and few between. Their last win in the world cup was back in 1998 against Bulgaria since than they have drawn 2 and lost 6.

Germany vs Portugal (World Cup 2014 Full Matches) The most anticipated game of the world cup so far too k place today when The best player in the world Ronaldo finaly made his appearence in 2014 world cup as his team took on Germany for the first group game. Germans started the match on fire winning a penalty kick inside 12 minutes which was converted by 2010 golden boot winner Thomas Muller. Germany 4-0 Portugal Highlights [ Group G - 2014 World Cup Match ] 02′ 1 – 0 (pen.) Thomas Mueller 32′ 2 – 0 Mats Hummels 45′ 3 – 0 Thomas Mueller 77′ 4 – 0 Thomas Mueller German doubled their lead half hour later when Borussia Dortmund defender Mats Hummel scored with a thumping header on a corner to make it 2-0. Portugal’s start to the world cup went bad to worse when Pepe showed stupidity to get himself sentoff for headbutting Thomas Muller. Game was done and dusted before the break when Thomas Muller added another to make the scoreline 3-0 and kill any slim chance of Portugal making a comeback. This was a disaster start to Portugal world cup campaign. THomas Muller completed his hattrick in the 2nd half with another good goal to heap more misery on Ronaldo and co who just did stop trying all day.

Ghana vs USA (World Cup 2014 Full Matches) Once the first goal went in, USA sit back and played on the counter attacks, Ghana had a few chances which they failed to convert and the longer the game went Ghana’s gameplay became more predictable and they started to get frustrated. Their break finaly came in 84th minute when Andre Ayew scored for Ghana but USA took the lead back within couple of minutes to finish of Ghana. On paper what is the hardest group in the world cup will see USA taking on Ghana in the game which is so crucial for both sides chances of getting through to the knockout stages. Germany and Portugal are in the same group who will play their game earlier in the day. Ghana is widely considered as the best african side in world cup and they will be looking to repeat the success of 2010 world cup. United States football team under Jurgen Klinsmann has come along way and he has put his faith in youngsters and left out the likes of London Donovan from the world cup squad. Clint Dempsey will be the key player for USA side along with Aron Johannsson from AZ Alkmaar.

Belgium vs Algeria (World Cup 2014 Full Matches) Belgium took on Algeria in a game where a upset was expected and Algeria scored through a penalty goal in the first half leaving a lackluster Belgium side going into the break 1-0 down. After the break however “Red Devils” up the temp and managed to turn things around with 2 goals coming in just 5 minutes. Great things were expected from this Belgium side, the best in history of belgium football. But things did not go as planned in the first half as Algeria frustrated them with 10 men behind the ball and a penalty goal. But Manchester United midfielder Maroune Fellaini came from the bench to score a header and martinze scored another to make it 2-1 and all three points. Belgium 2-1 Algeria Highlights [ Fifa World Cup 2014 ] 24′ 0 – 1 (pen.) Sofiane Feghouli 70′ 1 – 1 Marouane Fellaini 80′ 2 – 1 Dries Mertens Belgium will go into the opening game with massive expectations, their current squad is rated very highly and they should perform with many of their players at the peak of their careers. They take on Algeria in the opening group game and although on paper it looks likea mismatch but make no mistake about Algeria credentials. Under coach Vahid Halilhodžić they have become a force to reckon with in African football and will test belgium to the limit.
