F.B. Purity User Guide

Using Fluff Busting Purity

Once installed, you can check that the script is working, by going to your Facebook homepage, you can do this by clicking either the Facebook logo at the top left hand side of the facebook page, or the "Home" link at the top on the right hand side of the search box.

The script should be displaying a new mini information bar just above your "Top News" and "Most Recent" links. The info bar will look something like this:

The F.B. Purity Options screen, where you can edit your preferences, can be accessed by clicking the "F.B. Purity" link.

The "3 app" text means that 3 "Application" messages have been hidden, and if you are curious, you can display them by clicking the "Show" link next to it. When you choose to show the application messages, they will be displayed with a light red dotted line around them.

You can learn how to customise which applications are shown and which are hidden at the
F.B. Purity Application Whitelist Guide

The "6 extra" text means that 6 "Extra" messages have been hidden, and if you are curious to see them, you can click the "Show" link next to it. Extra messages are basically "x became friend with y", "x became a fan of y", "x joined group y", "x is attending event y" type messages. When you choose to show the extra messages, they will be displayed with a light blue dotted line around them.

You can learn how to customise which "Extra messages" are shown and which are hidden at the
F.B. Purity Extras blacklist Guide

Well thats it, once the script is running, you will be able to enjoy a significantly cleaned up, application spam free, Facebook homepage. Enjoy!

How to Edit the F.B. Purity Whitelist

By default F.B. Purity hides all messages posted by applications from your homepage. There are a few exceptions, there is a default "whitelist" built into the script, which allows the following "external" applications to post messages to your homepage:

facebook iphone application, selective twitter, tumblr, digsby, tweetdeck, tweetdeck for iphone, facebook for blackberry, facebook mobile widget, facebook for android, facebook for palm, facebook for motorola (motoblur), iphoto uploader, picasa uploader, sprint/samsung? photo/video uploader, SonyEricsson, MusicPlayer, Status Shuffle, Facebook Exporter for iPhoto, official flickr application.

There are a couple of ways you can add applications to the whitelist, the easiest way is to click the "Allow" link that appears when you hover over an application message on your homepage, next to the "Block App" link and the "Hide" button. Clicking the "Allow" link will add that application to your whitelist. You can view and edit the list of application IDs you have added to your whitelist on the F.B. Purity Options screen.

You can also add application IDs to the list manually, by pasting their IDs into the whitelist box on the options screen. You just need to know the application ID of the app you want to whitelist. You can find its ID by going to the application's homepage, by clicking the "via " link at the bottom of an application post , then looking at the URL (a.k.a web address). The applications ID is the numerical bit after "application.php?id="

e.g say i wanted to add the "Honesty Box" application to the whitelist manually, i would go to the "Honesty Box" application page, and look at the URL, which should look something like :

well the ID for that application would be : 2552096927

If the application page URL doesnt have an ID in it, go to the applications Wall or Info page, that page should have the application's ID in it. Or failing that, look for the "Block Application" link, the application ID will be definitely be embedded in that link. Another place to look for the application ID is in the "posted via someapplication" link at the bottom of the application post in your feed, if you hover your mouse over that link, it will probably display the application ID in the status bar (the bottom right hand corner of your browser)

How to Edit the List of Extras that F.B. Purity Hides

First open the F.B. Purity options screen. you can do this by clicking the "F.B. Purity" link in the F.B. Purity bar at the top of your FB homepage.

On the left hand side of the options screen is a list of the extras that you can hide from your fb homepage.

You can choose which extras you want to hide by ticking the boxes next to the ones you dont want to see

The current list of Extras that you can hide via the script are: "Became friends with", "Liked (Became a fan of)", "Joined a group", "Attending an event", "Attended an event", "Created an event", "Updated profile", "Changed profile pic", "Changed relationship", "Commented on or likes status", "Tagged in, likes or commented on photo", "Tagged in album", "Commented on or likes album", "Commented on or likes link", "Commented on wall", "Commented on group wall", "Commented on page wall".

Custom Text Filter

Want to hide posts to your homepage that contain specific words or phrases? The custom text filter allows you to do this. Any posts featuring the words and or phrases that you specify will be treated as "Extras", i.e hidden and only displayed, if you click the "Show" extras link. (Note for advanced users "Regular Expression" syntax can also be used here)

You can enter a comma separated list of words or phrases in the Custom Text Filter box on the F.B. Purity options screen that you don't want to see in your newsfeeds.

For example, say you wanted to hide all posts that mentioned "FarmityVillage", you would enter "FarmityVillage" into the custom text filter box (without the quotes) like so

Code
FarmityVillage

If you also wanted to hide the phrase "Go boston raiders" you would add a comma and then the text, like so:

Code
FarmityVillage,Go boston raiders

etc.

Hiding the Suggestions Box

If you want to turn off the "suggestions" box

Just tick the check box next to the text "Hide Suggestions Box" on the F.B. Purity Options Screen, this will hide the suggestions box.

Hiding the Sponsored Box

If you want to turn off the "Sponsored" box

Just tick the check box next to the text "Hide Sponsored Box" on the F.B. Purity Options Screen, this will hide the Sponsored box.

Hiding the Connect With Friends Box

If you want to hide the "Connect with Friends" box

Just tick the check box next to the text "Hide Connect With Friends Box" on the F.B. Purity Options Screen.

N.B Dont forget, in order for the changes you make to the options screen to be saved, you need to click the "Save and Close" buttton.
